DESCRIPTION:Reading aloud to children is one of the best things you can do for their development. Not only is it fun\, but it is also a bonding experience that can impact their literacy skills\, emotional well-being\, and love of reading. Studies have shown that children who know more words when they enter kindergarten tend to read better and have higher academic achievement throughout school. Children who are read to more often are exposed to more new words and develop a more robust understanding of language. A 2019 study by The Ohio State University found that young children whose parents read to them five times daily will hear nearly 1.5 million more words by the time they turn five than children who were not read to at all. This is known as the “million-word gap. – United Through Reading website. \nAbbott Library encourages families to join staff members for our weekly storytimes each Wednesday at 10 AM. DESCRIPTION:Join us this Friday for our first wine tasting of the fall\, as we head to South Africa for a lineup of four distinctive wines. We’re especially excited to welcome Samantha Blackbeard\, Director of Sales at Baobab Wines\, who will be joining us to pour\, share the stories behind the wines\, and offer a closer look at South African winemaking. \nWe’ll begin with the expressive Benguela Cove Cuvée 58\, followed by New Dawn White. From there\, we’ll move into the reds with Olifantsberg Beneath Our Feet Red\, before finishing with a classic South African favorite\, Longridge Pinotage. \nIt’s a wonderful introduction to South African wine\, moving from bright and refreshing to rich and full-bodied. Four wines\, four different expressions\, and plenty to discover along the way. \nAs always\, the tasting is complimentary\, casual\, and a great reason to spend a fall afternoon in Sunapee Harbor. Bring a friend\, discover a new favorite\, grab a glass for the patio\, and settle in for a little Friday sipping. \nAnd there’s no need to leave when the tasting ends.
