SUMMARY:Tattercoats - Sunapee CoffeeHouse
DESCRIPTION:Tattercoats is the wife-and-husband folk duo of Ned Joyner and Charlotte Wager-Miller. Described as sounding “like a warm\, comforting bowl of soup\,” they draw from their southern Indiana roots to forge a style that is both earthy and refined—rooted in tradition and distinguished by “breathtaking tight vocal harmonies” \nTheir wide repertoire spans centuries and continents: from Old World ballads and Appalachian traditionals to country standards\, folk revival classics\, and familiar favorites of the 1950s\, ’60s\, and ’70s. \nMusic has always been central to their story. It first brought them together as a couple\, and later became their anchor when they moved to New York City in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In those strange and unsettled times\, they turned instinctively to folk music. The songs of resilience\, heartbreak\, resistance and celebration in the folk canon became a vital source of comfort\, connection and joy. \nThis experience instilled a deep appreciation for vernacular music’s ability to gather people around the hearth of our shared humanity—a lasting impression that guides their approach today. In an increasingly isolated\, divided and virtual world\, Tattercoats offer folk music as a grounding force to rekindle connection and belonging.

SUMMARY:Autumn Uncorked | Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fall wine tasting that takes us from Germany to California with four distinctive wines and a lineup that leans a little more toward the reds as the season begins to change. \nWe’ll start in Germany with Pfeffingen Dry Scheurebe\, a bright\, aromatic white with plenty of freshness and character. From there\, we’ll stay with Pfeffingen for their Spätburgunder\, Germany’s take on Pinot Noir\, before heading west to California for two bigger reds: Orin Swift Bloodline and Denner Vineyards New Colossus Cabernet Sauvignon. \nIt’s a tasting that starts fresh and lively\, then builds in depth and richness as we move through the reds. With cooler afternoons arriving and fall settling into the Harbor\, it feels like the perfect time to begin exploring wines with a little more weight and warmth. \nAs always\, the tasting is complimentary\, casual\, and a great reason to spend a fall afternoon in Sunapee Harbor. Bring a friend\, discover a new favorite\, grab a glass for the patio\, and settle in for a little Friday sipping. \nAnd there’s no need to leave when the tasting ends. We’ll be serving wine and beer by the glass on the patio during and after the event\, so stay awhile and enjoy the Harbor.\nhttps://sunapeecellarandpantry.com/autumn-uncorked-wine-tasting-thur-oct-8/

SUMMARY:Open Table Project Dinner
DESCRIPTION:This month is a ham supper to warm you up! The OpenTable Project provides free monthly meals open to the community. If you’re not familiar with the project\, here is a description: Join the conversations around the table. We’re not solving the problems of the world\, just chatting and getting to know one another. Our world and even our own community have become increasingly discordant and dominated by divisive rhetoric. We are hoping that as people come to know each other better on a more personal level\, conversations can be had without the hard edge that has developed. “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t yet met.” (William Butler Yeats). Come and meet a stranger and leave having made a new friend and enjoyed some home cooked food.

SUMMARY:Understanding Cyanobacteria in Lake Sunapee: Monitoring and Research
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Jess Trout-Haney of Dartmouth and LSPA Burkehaven Fellow Maura Beatty for a look at LSPA’s collaborative cyanobacteria monitoring and research this summer. \nJess and Maura will share what we’ve learned about measuring and tracking cyanobacteria populations in Lake Sunapee. This work has allowed us to establish standardized monitoring protocols and strengthen our research collaborations. The resulting datasets provide essential baseline information for better understanding the drivers of cyanobacterial blooms and the role of cyanobacteria in the lake’s food web. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Last of the Granite State Rattlesnakes
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 29\n5:30—6:30 PM\nActivities Room \nRattlesnakes were so common in colonial-era New Hampshire that dozens of places were named for them\, ranging from the Massachusetts border to the White Mountains. They were so abundant some settlers could pay their property taxes with the bounties offered for killing them. Today\, however\, Crotalus horridus\, the timber rattlesnake\, is the state’s rarest native animal—only a handful are known to survive. State law protects them now\, but that may not be enough to save them. Wildlife biologists have predicted this tiny remnant will die out without extraordinary intervention. \nHow did this feared and fascinating animal come to the very brink of extirpation in our state? This illustrated presentation maps how we got here through the social\, political\, and natural history of New Hampshire’s rattlesnakes. Historian and former newspaper reporter Dan Billin presents vivid\, little-known stories and images from our centuries-long war on our rattlesnakes. Topics include who’s been bitten; the medicinal use of rattlesnake oil by the Shakers and others; the exploits of the “Rattlesnake King of New Hampshire”; the twentieth-century rattlesnake panic in the legislature; and the mysterious recent appearance of rattlesnakes with Pennsylvania genes. This program reviews what is and isn’t being done today to conserve our rattlesnakes\, and the many obstacles to their survival. \nNo Registration Required

SUMMARY:Lynne Hanson - Sunapee CoffeeHouse
DESCRIPTION:Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country\, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn on a dime from a sunshine\, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep\, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch\, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. Hanson is known for her high energy\, roots guitar driven live performances. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming. The two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner has released ten studio albums along with two books of poetry over her 20 year solo career. She’s the winner of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award\, and a two time Kerrville New Folk finalist. She’s toured extensively across North America\, Europe and the UK. She has also toured as support for Grammy-nominated artists like Gretchen Peters\, Steve Forbert and Albert Lee. Her latest album “Just A Poet” was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year.
