SUMMARY:Van-ar-chy Comes Home: Billy B. Van’s Lost Silent Comedies
DESCRIPTION:Slapstick comedy. Local history. 1919 New Hampshire back on the screen. \nSunapee Historical Society and Newport Historical Society Present: \nVan-ar-chy Comes Home: Billy B. Van’s Lost Silent Comedies \n2PM Sunday November 1\, 2026\nHistoric Newport Opera House\nCash Bar \nTickets : Newport Opera House Box Office (newportoperahouse.com)\n603-863-2412 \nMore than a century after it was filmed in and around Newport and Sunapee\, a long-lost silent comedy starring vaudeville entertainer and local filmmaker Billy B. Van is coming home. \n“Van-ar-chy\,” believed lost for decades\, will return to the screen on Sunday\, November 1\, 2026\, at 2:00 p.m. at the historic Newport Opera House. Presented by the Newport Historical Society and the Sunapee Historical Society\, the program will offer audiences a rare chance to see the Lake Sunapee region as it appeared more than a century ago—and to rediscover a nearly forgotten chapter in early American filmmaking. \n“Van-ar-chy Comes Home: Billy B. Van’s Lost Silent Comedies” will feature digitally restored presentations of “Van-ar-chy” and the role-reversal farce “Where Are Your Husbands?”\, two Billy B. Van comedies from 1919 rediscovered more than a century after they were made. A historical introduction will place the films in the story of Van’s unusual New Hampshire filmmaking venture and the rapidly developing motion-picture industry of the 1910s. New piano accompaniment for “Van-ar-chy” composed and performed live by pianist Bob Merrill. \nMore information: http://www.billybvan.com \n \n

SUMMARY:Storytime
DESCRIPTION:Reading aloud to children is one of the best things you can do for their development. Not only is it fun\, but it is also a bonding experience that can impact their literacy skills\, emotional well-being\, and love of reading. Studies have shown that children who know more words when they enter kindergarten tend to read better and have higher academic achievement throughout school. Children who are read to more often are exposed to more new words and develop a more robust understanding of language. A 2019 study by The Ohio State University found that young children whose parents read to them five times daily will hear nearly 1.5 million more words by the time they turn five than children who were not read to at all. This is known as the “million-word gap. – United Through Reading website. \nAbbott Library encourages families to join staff members for our weekly storytimes each Wednesday at 10 AM. Participants hear stories\, sing songs\, and create a craft.\nFor more information\, call or email the library at 603.763.5513 or info@abbottlibrary.org.

SUMMARY:The Paper Prince - Sunapee CoffeeHouse
DESCRIPTION:Sean Robert Jones/The Paper Prince is a folk singer-songwriter based out of upstate New York. Shaped by a barren\, working class environment with brutal winters\, his music stretches the bounds of genre\, pushing folk to the point of fracture and reflecting the heartbreaking wistfulness of his surroundings. He utilizes experimental harmonic structures\, as well as complex instrumental arrangements\, which aid in the delivery of parable-driven lyrical imagery. Sean draws not only from the realm of classical music\, but also from the compositional prowess of songwriters including: Leonard Cohen\, Glen Hansard\, Jason Molina\, and Jeff Buckley.
