SUMMARY:Artificial Intelligence Today
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) seems to be everywhere today. It provides summary results for our Internet searches. It offers to improve our emails. It provides recommendations for books and movies and TV shows we might like. But what is AI? And\, in particular\, what is generative AI? In this presentation\, Dr. Cathie LeBlanc will explore the history of AI\, the different types of AI\, how AI works\, and why it seems to be everywhere at the moment. She will also discuss the pros and cons of AI use in a variety of contexts. \nCathie LeBlanc is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Florida State University with a BA\, MS\, and PhD in computer science. Her first encounter with artificial intelligence came in 1984 at Dartmouth\, the birthplace of AI. Her graduate work focused on developing AI tools for use in molecular biology applications. She taught computer science\, digital media\, and game design at Plymouth State University for 28 years before retiring in January\, 2026. She lives in Campton\, NH\, with her cat\, RBG.

SUMMARY:Sunapee Traffic Calming Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:Traffic Calming Pop-Up on Route 11: May 31 to June 8 \nThe Town of Sunapee\, in partnership with the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC) and Forward Sunapee\, will host a temporary “Traffic Calming Pop-Up” along Route 11 near Lower Main Street from Sunday\, May 31 through Monday\, June 8. The project will test a temporary roadway redesign to calm traffic\, improve pedestrian safety\, and create a more inviting\, walkable environment. \nDuring the demonstration\, roadway changes will include re-striped and protected crosswalks\, median traffic posts\, delineated parking\, temporary markings for potential parking and public-use space\, and flowers and other placemaking elements. These are intended to slow traffic at the NH 11/Lower Main Street intersection\, provide clearer visual cues for drivers\, and convert some roadway space into community space. \nThe pop-up is a short-term demonstration only and not a final design. Any future permanent improvements would require full engineering design\, review\, and approval by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT). This type of demonstration helps the community visualize potential changes\, discuss traffic safety needs\, and gather information on how design elements affect speeds and safety for all users. \nCommunity members are encouraged to drive\, walk\, and bike through the area during the pop-up and share feedback on the temporary changes. Volunteers are also needed to help with setup\, monitoring\, and breakdown; details are available via the project QR code or by contacting the planner below. \n \nFor more information or to get involved\, please contact:\nTim Josephson\, UVLSRPC Planner\ntjosephson@uvlsrpc.org | 603-448-1680 ext. 105

SUMMARY:Movie Night: Shrek
DESCRIPTION:Join us to watch the first Shrek on the projector! \nShrek leads a solitary life in his swamp. A group of peasants gathers in front of his house with the goal of hunting down the ogre in return for bounty. He scares them away\, however\, and as they leave\, he notices they dropped a wanted poster offering a reward for capturing fairytale creatures. The next day he goes out into the nearby woods and meets Donkey who\, having escaped from the guards of a fairytale creatures market\, bumps into him. The soldiers\, terrified of Shrek\, run away\, and Donkey tags along with his newfound friend. Since Donkey has nowhere to stay\, Shrek agrees to let him sleep in his swamp for one night. That same night\, Shrek’s swamp becomes overrun by a host of fairytale creatures who have been displaced by Lord Farquaad. Shrek decides to visit Farquaad at his palace to negotiate regaining his privacy with Donkey as a companion who knows the way to Duloc. The two make it to Duloc and come across a knight tournament which aims to select a man who will rescue Princess Fiona from a castle surrounded by lava and guarded by a fire-breathing dragon so that Farquaad may marry her and finally become a king. Shrek and Donkey easily best all the contestants\, and Farquaad agrees to nullify his order and grant him rights to his land if Shrek brings Fiona\, a deal that Shrek agrees to.

SUMMARY:Cosy Sheridan
DESCRIPTION:Cosy Sheridan has been called “one of the era’s finest and most thoughtful singer/songwriters” She first appeared on the national folk scene in 1992 when she won the songwriting contests at The Kerrville Folk Festival and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Since then she has released 10 cds\, written a one-woman-show and her music has appeared in books and film. She has taught songwriting\, guitar and performance workshops at music camps for the past 15 years\, including The Puget Sound Guitar Workshop and The Swannanoa Gathering. She is the director of The Moab Folk Camp in Moab\, Utah. \n“Her user-friendly musical philosophy sets her happily apart from the myopic\, self-involved songwriters… she is a wonderfully lively\, very funny and enormously amiable entertainer with a keen and wicked eye for the excesses of our fast-food\, tv-happy and noisome culture.” – The Boston Globe \n“A Buddhist monk in a 12-step program trapped in the body of a singer/songwriter.” – The Albuquerque Journal \n“Sheridan is frank\, feisty\, sublimely and devilishly funny. She fuses myth with modern culture\, Persephone with Botox.” – Cornell Folksong Society

SUMMARY:Ausbon Sargent Presents: An Evening with the NH Butterfly Monitoring Network
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from Amy Highstrom\, volunteer local group leader with the New Hampshire Butterfly Monitoring Network from the NH Fish & Game Non-Game Wildlife Program. She will explore the topics of NH native butterflies\, their habitats\, and how you can make your property more equipped for our beautiful butterflies. Amy also coordinates the Lake Sunapee Region butterfly count\, so she is well acquainted with the butterflies in our area. The presentation will cover what has been found on the local butterfly counts so far\, with an emphasis on habitat types for different species. \nIf there are any landowners whose land is under conservation that would like someone from the butterfly count group to come do a walk-about count to see what can be found\, please let Amy know at: amy.highstrom@gmail.com. She will do her best to match the request with available volunteers. This would be an informal and fun experience for both the landowner and volunteers. \nThis event is free and open to all\, but registration is required. Please do so by clicking HERE to fill out the form. \nQuestions? Please contact: sarah@ausbonsargent.org or call 603-526-6555
