SUMMARY:Tattercoats - Sunapee CoffeeHouse
DESCRIPTION:Tattercoats is the wife-and-husband folk duo of Ned Joyner and Charlotte Wager-Miller. Described as sounding “like a warm\, comforting bowl of soup\,” they draw from their southern Indiana roots to forge a style that is both earthy and refined—rooted in tradition and distinguished by “breathtaking tight vocal harmonies” \nTheir wide repertoire spans centuries and continents: from Old World ballads and Appalachian traditionals to country standards\, folk revival classics\, and familiar favorites of the 1950s\, ’60s\, and ’70s. \nMusic has always been central to their story. It first brought them together as a couple\, and later became their anchor when they moved to New York City in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In those strange and unsettled times\, they turned instinctively to folk music. The songs of resilience\, heartbreak\, resistance and celebration in the folk canon became a vital source of comfort\, connection and joy. \nThis experience instilled a deep appreciation for vernacular music’s ability to gather people around the hearth of our shared humanity—a lasting impression that guides their approach today. In an increasingly isolated\, divided and virtual world\, Tattercoats offer folk music as a grounding force to rekindle connection and belonging.

SUMMARY:Understanding Cyanobacteria in Lake Sunapee: Monitoring and Research
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Jess Trout-Haney of Dartmouth and LSPA Burkehaven Fellow Maura Beatty for a look at LSPA’s collaborative cyanobacteria monitoring and research this summer. \nJess and Maura will share what we’ve learned about measuring and tracking cyanobacteria populations in Lake Sunapee. This work has allowed us to establish standardized monitoring protocols and strengthen our research collaborations. The resulting datasets provide essential baseline information for better understanding the drivers of cyanobacterial blooms and the role of cyanobacteria in the lake’s food web. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Last of the Granite State Rattlesnakes
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 29\n5:30—6:30 PM\nActivities Room \nRattlesnakes were so common in colonial-era New Hampshire that dozens of places were named for them\, ranging from the Massachusetts border to the White Mountains. They were so abundant some settlers could pay their property taxes with the bounties offered for killing them. Today\, however\, Crotalus horridus\, the timber rattlesnake\, is the state’s rarest native animal—only a handful are known to survive. State law protects them now\, but that may not be enough to save them. Wildlife biologists have predicted this tiny remnant will die out without extraordinary intervention. \nHow did this feared and fascinating animal come to the very brink of extirpation in our state? This illustrated presentation maps how we got here through the social\, political\, and natural history of New Hampshire’s rattlesnakes. Historian and former newspaper reporter Dan Billin presents vivid\, little-known stories and images from our centuries-long war on our rattlesnakes. Topics include who’s been bitten; the medicinal use of rattlesnake oil by the Shakers and others; the exploits of the “Rattlesnake King of New Hampshire”; the twentieth-century rattlesnake panic in the legislature; and the mysterious recent appearance of rattlesnakes with Pennsylvania genes. This program reviews what is and isn’t being done today to conserve our rattlesnakes\, and the many obstacles to their survival. \nNo Registration Required

SUMMARY:Lynne Hanson - Sunapee CoffeeHouse
DESCRIPTION:Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country\, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn on a dime from a sunshine\, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep\, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch\, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. Hanson is known for her high energy\, roots guitar driven live performances. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming. The two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner has released ten studio albums along with two books of poetry over her 20 year solo career. She’s the winner of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award\, and a two time Kerrville New Folk finalist. She’s toured extensively across North America\, Europe and the UK. She has also toured as support for Grammy-nominated artists like Gretchen Peters\, Steve Forbert and Albert Lee. Her latest album “Just A Poet” was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year.

SUMMARY:The Bond's at The Landing in Sunapee Harbor
DESCRIPTION:MARK BOND\nlead vocals • guitars • bass • drum tracks \nDEBBIE BOND\nkeyboards • vocals • drum tracks \nThey’ve been musical collaborators for 33 years and “partners” for 27 of those years. Playing in a variety of bands during that timeframe (Wild Heart\, Acid Bran\, Vehicle\, The Larry Mitchell Band\, Last Kid Picked\, Everafter\, the Jaye Muller Band)\, Mark & Deb had always found that one constant seemed to apply…the two of them. So when the time was right\, the formation of a musical duo seemed only logical. \nSo with that\, the next chapter of their musical journey takes flight. Mark & Deb are able to take almost any style of music or atmosphere and adapt. They can go from casual\, quiet acoustic music to the full sound of a dance band. With the versatility of these two musicians\, almost anything is possible.
