There is often a shortage of blood inventory nationwide, but it is particularly severe right now due to the high incidence of flu among donors and winter weather canceling drives. The demand for blood is outpacing supply, forcing some hospitals to delay, triage, or cancel patient surgeries and treatments. Some patients are not getting needed blood products due to the shortage.
