Listening to New England

“Listening to New England,” is a 45 minute talk with PowerPoint images by Mel Allen. Drawing from his nearly half century of reporting and writing about the unique people and places of New England for Yankee magazine. Mel will let you see and feel the region in a unique way. Along the way Mel will talk about Yankee’s past and how it has survived for 90 years since its founding in 1935. After the talk, Mel will answer questions and meet with audience members who wish to have him inscribe copies of his new book-Here in New England: Unforgettable people, places and memories that connect us all.
About Mel:
From his first two stories in Yankee’s December 1977 issue to a January day in 2025 when he closed his office door for the last time, Mel spent nearly half a century finding people and places whose stories he wanted to know and assigning countless others to the finest writers in New England. He became Yankee’s fifth editor in the summer of 2006, after previous roles as senior editor and executive editor. In 2018, he was inducted into the Folio Magazine Hall of Fame for editorial excellence. He lives and writes in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire.
